In an instant, your life could change forever . . .

You awake to the smell of heavy smoke. It becomes increasingly difficult to breathe. Is your family safe? What do you do? How will you rebuild your life in the aftermath of a fire?

Every day, anywhere from one to three homes in our area are ravaged by fire. In the shock and confusion that follow, the American Red Cross is there, helping to rebuild lives.

The Response Department of the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross (LCAC) provides disaster relief and training to residents throughout the 10-parish service area on a daily basis. Disasters include single-family incidents (mainly house fires) and other events, such as hazardous materials incidents and damaging windstorms.

The American Red Cross is not a government agency and depends on the generosity of local businesses and individuals, as well as support from the Capital Area United Way, to provide vital assistance to local disaster victims.
